Life at the Olympia Campus
On Sunday, Pastor Scott Thomas taught out of Jonah Chapter 4 and brought insight what the differences were between true and false repentance. Below are the examples he shared with Olympia Campus, just in case you missed some of them!
False Repentance
- Motive to keep God happy and be blessed
- Sorrow over consequences
- Self-Prompted
- Self-Righteous (an action to atone)
- Bitter religious act
- Unnatural and traumatic
- Diminishes over time
- Driven by pride
- Results in a burnt out life successive failures
- Produces more sin
|
True Repentance
- Motive to unite with Christ in joyful obedience
- Sorrow over dishonoring God
- Holy Spirit Prompted
- Imputed Righteousness (His action is sufficient)
- Sweet response to love
- Natural response to grace
- Increases as a spiritual rhythm
- Driven by humility
- Results in a burning love for Jesus and a disdain for sin
- Produces Fruit, Matthew 3:7-8
